Cammie,

I’ve been thinking about singing You Are My Sunshine to you in utero.  You’re still my sunshine.  But I suppose now it’s time for me to start singing to baby Gavin.

I remember all the questions I had when I was pregnant with you and I wonder if you might ask yourself some of those same questions now.  I wondered what you would look like, whose personality you would have, if I could possibly be the mom you would need me to be.

Sometimes I still ask myself that last question.  Sometimes I feel like I’m failing miserably.  Times three. And then I fall back on grace.  Thank God love covers!

As you approach the start of your new journey as wife and mother, I struggle—we struggle—guiding and instructing you.  It’s hard letting go.  I know it’s safe to leave you in the arms of Daddy God.  But I still wonder if I’ve prepared you enough.  As parents we make lots of mistakes.  We aren’t perfect.  But love covers.

This past year may have been a bumpy ride.  But love covers.

And this next year will present lots of changes for you.  Some exciting.  Some scary.  But as you take on the role of Mrs. Charles “Trey” Durand III, wave goodbye to your Groom when he leaves for basic training, become a mother, begin college and face the possibility of seeing your husband deployed—I hope you will remember that love covers.

I’ll be right here cheering you on and praying for you.

forever and for always

Happy 19th!

I love you my Sunshine!
